In celebration of the National Teachers’ Month and the World Teachers’ Day, the Metrobank Foundation Network of Outstanding Teachers sponsored a colloquy titled: Understanding the Next Big STEP: Supporting Teachers for Excellent Practices last September 5 at the Benavides Auditorium, University of Santo Tomas. Invited discussants were Dr. Allan de Guzman (SOT 2011), Dean of the UST College of Education, Dr. Hilda C. Montaño (SOT 2012), Dean of West Visayas State University, College of Education and Mr. Regie Palmos (SOT 2015), faculty of West Visayas State University Laboratory School. The sharing of each of the discussants shed light on how having a clear-cut set of teaching beliefs contribute to teachers’ (i) instructional strategies; (ii) coping with changes and challenges in daily professional life; (iii) shaping the learning environment and disciplinary climate; and (iv) engagement in professional development activities. The colloquy is an innovation spearheaded by the present NOTED board members purported to capture and chronicle the stories and best practices of SOT winners in various aspects of teaching, research and community engagement.
